Senior Project Manager / Project Manager – Dairy & Food Manufacturing
Christchurch Based | South Island Focus | Travel Required
TEG Projects is seeking an experienced Project Manager or Senior Project Manager to join our Christchurch team and support capital projects within New Zealand’s dairy and food manufacturing sector.
This role offers the opportunity to work directly within major dairy manufacturing operations, as well as other leading food and beverage organisations. We’re looking for someone who can confidently lead projects from concept through to commissioning while building strong relationships with clients, contractors, and stakeholders.
At TEG Projects, we provide end-to-end project management and engineering services to some of New Zealand’s largest food and beverage manufacturers. We are a 100% New Zealand-owned business with a strong reputation for practical delivery, collaboration, and long-term client relationships. We work closely with our specialist risk and safety engineering partners at TEG Risk, providing integrated project and risk solutions for our clients.
The Role
Based in Christchurch, you will initially support projects across major South Island dairy manufacturing sites, while also having opportunities to work on projects throughout New Zealand as client and business requirements evolve.
You will be responsible for delivering projects safely, efficiently and to a high standard, managing scope, schedule, budget, quality and stakeholder expectations. This is a highly autonomous role where you’ll work directly with clients and have the opportunity to influence project outcomes while being supported by an experienced team of project and engineering professionals.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead projects from concept, planning and design through to installation, commissioning and handover.
- Manage project budgets, schedules, risks and resource requirements.
- Build strong relationships with clients, contractors, suppliers and site personnel.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary teams to ensure successful project execution.
- Monitor project progress and provide regular reporting to stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with site safety, quality and operational requirements.
- Work collaboratively with TEG Risk specialists to integrate safety and risk considerations into project delivery.
About You
- Minimum 5 years’ project management experience within dairy, food manufacturing, beverage, or industrial processing environments.
- Senior Project Manager candidates with 10+ years’ experience are strongly encouraged to apply.
- Proven experience delivering brownfield or capital projects within operational manufacturing facilities.
- Experience working within large-scale dairy manufacturing environments will be highly regarded.
- Familiarity with major dairy industry systems, standards and project delivery processes would be advantageous.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and lead project teams.
- Willingness to travel and work across multiple client locations throughout New Zealand as required.
- Engineering, process, production, or technical background highly regarded.

Project Manager/Process Engineer – Food Manufacturing
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Project Manager to join TEG Projects and work with some of New Zealand’s leading food and beverage manufacturers. You will become part of a highly experienced and supportive project delivery team, providing comprehensive project management and engineering services to a portfolio of blue-chip clients.
TEG has long-standing relationships with many of New Zealand’s largest food and beverage companies, with specialist expertise in project management and machine safety.
This role is ideally suited to an engineer with a background in food manufacturing, process engineering and experience in plant installation projects. We are seeking someone with a strong understanding of project management throughout the full project lifecycle, from project definition and feasibility studies through to detailed design, installation, and commissioning. This includes knowledge of estimating, planning, cost reporting, and change management.
You will work in a dynamic production environment, gaining exposure to a wide range of manufacturing processes, equipment, and projects. Success in this role requires strong teamwork, proactive communication, and the ability to provide effective leadership across multiple stakeholders. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious professional looking to further develop their skills across a variety of industries, clients, locations and projects.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
- Act as the primary day-to-day liaison with clients across multiple projects.
- Manage project cost, schedule, and performance outcomes.
- Be one of the process engineering specialists within the TEG team, providing guidance and support to other team members.
- Coordinate and manage contractors and suppliers to meet project priorities and timelines.
- Facilitate the involvement of client operations, maintenance, and technical personnel throughout project development and execution.
- Monitor the technical quality and completeness of engineering deliverables.
- Prepare and maintain project management documentation and deliverables.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will:
- Hold a tertiary qualification in Engineering.
- Have at least five years of post-graduate experience within a food manufacturing environment.
- Have process engineering experience, including competence in performing system calculations, developing P&ID’s, PFDs, equipment lists, and understanding energy balances.
- Have experience delivering brownfield projects in complex processing plants.
- Be familiar with project management tools, methodologies, and best practices.
- Have strong verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Have experience preparing cost estimates and capital expenditure requests.
